Description
Bradley Manor Lodge is a mid-19th century lodge located on Totnes Road in Newton Abbot, serving as the entrance to Bradley Manor. The building is constructed from squared Devon limestone and features a triple-pitched slate roof with three forward-facing gables; the two gables on the right are crested. There are rendered stacks on the left return and a valley on the left of center, with a rear stack on the right.
The lodge has a three-unit plan and includes a two-storey wing at the rear left. It is single-storey with a basement to the left, situated on a sloping site, and has a three-window range. The building is set on a plinth. The outer gables, resembling oriels, have slightly projecting brattished panels, some of which have been repaired with concrete, and feature rubblestone voussoirs above shallow segmental arches that frame slender 2-light small-paned casement windows. The central gable is slightly lower and includes a canted bay, likely added in the later 19th century, made of larger stone blocks and topped with a brattished parapet, also with similar windows. On the right return, there is a slate-roofed gabled porch with fixed small-paned windows on the returns and a Tudor arch leading to a four-panel door. The interior has not been inspected.
