Description

This is a mid-19th century lodge situated on the east side of the Great North Road in Conington. The building is constructed of gault brick with limestone dressings, and has a slate roof with stepped parapet gables and a stack with diagonally set shafts. It follows an asymmetric plan, with a house section facing the Great North Road and a lodge section leading to the drive. The two-storey house front features rusticated quoins and a projecting plinth. A central stepped parapet covers a two-storey bay containing a lancet window on each floor. An oval plaque is set within the gable, displaying a shield of arms and coronet. The windows have diamond-leaded lights. The doorway is situated within a four-centred moulded arch, surmounted by a gabled stone hood supported on shaped corbels at impost height.
