Description

Nos 2 and 4 Vicarage Hill is a house that was formerly divided into three cottages, likely built in the 17th century. The exterior is rendered and topped with an asbestos slate roof, featuring gabled ends. It has a projecting front lateral stack with a brick shaft and an axial stack.

At the time of the survey in 1986, access to the interior was not possible, so the layout is uncertain, but it may consist of a three-room and passage arrangement that has been extended on the left end and adapted for use as cottages.

The building is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front that has four windows arranged regularly, with the lateral stack positioned to the right of center. To the left of the stack, the eaves rise into gables above two first-floor windows. There are three front doors: one on the far right and two to the left of the stack. The windows are a complete set of 19th or early 20th century two-light casements, each with eight panes per light. One window at the left end has vertical glazing bars and likely serves a store room or outbuilding.

Although the interior was not inspected, it is possible that early features still exist. This building is an attractive example of vernacular architecture on Vicarage Hill.
