Description
Nos 17 and 19 Kirkgate is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed rubble and rendered brick, topped with a stone slate roof. It features three brick gable stacks, a single external stack, and two rear brick stacks. The house is two storeys high and has a three-room hall and cross wing plan.
The south front has an off-centre doorway with an overlight. To the right of the doorway, there is a pair of plain sash windows, with a rendered first-floor band above and a pair of smaller plain sashes above that. There is also an attached stable with a hay-loft over. To the left, there is a slightly projecting gabled cross wing that has two large plain sashes and, above them, two smaller plain sashes.
On the west front, there is a doorway with an overlight and an adjoining plain sash to the left, and a pair of plain sashes to the right. Above, there are two pairs of plain sashes, with the left pair featuring glazing bars. To the right, there is a large external stack. The rear, or north front, has a single storey beneath a long cat-slide roof.
