Description

Nos 12, 14, and 16 Kirkgate is a house that has been converted into three dwellings. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof, with ashlar coped gables that have moulded kneelers. There are two pairs of stone gable stacks and a single tall back stack, along with quoins.

The garden front has a central doorway featuring a part-glazed six-panel door with an overlight and a moulded flat hood. On either side of the doorway are single canted bay windows with hipped roofs, each containing three plain sashes. Above the doorway is a central plain sash, flanked by single tripartite plain sashes, all of which have plain ashlar surrounds. There are single-storey additions on either side, each with a canted bay front and hipped roof. The left addition has a central glazed door and tall flanking windows, while the right addition features a central plank door with blocked sides.

On the street front, there is a two-bay addition to the left. The off-centre doorway has an overlight, and to the right is a two-light mullion window with a 20th-century casement, while to the left is a small glazing bar window followed by a large three-light casement. Above this, there is a small central plain sash flanked by pairs of sashes, with the left pair featuring glazing bars. Further to the left, there is a two-bay addition that includes a door with an overlight and a single casement, with two casements above.
