Description
Toll Cottage is an early 19th-century toll house located on the north side of the A379 in Modbury. The cottage is rendered and features a slate roof. It is a small structure with canted corners at the front and has a large back extension that is not of special interest. The building stands two storeys high and has a 2-light horizontal bar casement window with a pointed arch and Y-tracery on each level of both canted faces. There is a plank door in a pointed opening, which is sheltered by an open gabled porch with solid cheeks. A brick stack is situated on the west side of the cottage. Toll Cottage is positioned on the Modbury to Kingsbridge Turnpike, at the junction with the older road leading from the town centre.
