Description

9 The Plains is a late 18th-century house with a warehouse at the rear, creating an L-shaped plan. It has three storeys and features one window on the west side facing The Plains, with a six-window return to the yard forming the main front on the north side. The building has a hipped Welsh slate roof and rendered stacks with arched, recessed panels. The exterior is made of red brick, which was formerly adorned with stucco rusticated block quoins and a first-floor band, though most of the stucco has been removed. There is a coved eaves cornice and recessed sash windows with gauged flat brick arches, stone keys, and glazing bars. The ground and first-floor windows on the north side have gauged segmental brick arches. A cast iron balcony is present at the first-floor window on the west side. On the north side, there is a recessed doorway with a rusticated wooden surround, a patterned fanlight with margin lights, and a raised and fielded six-panel door topped with a modern bracketed hood. Additionally, there is a former warehouse door at the east end of the north front, featuring a semi-elliptical arched head and a half-glazed door with a margin light. The building has modern additions on the south and east sides and is currently in multiple occupation.
