Description

Nos. 4 and 5, The Plains, are late 18th-century buildings that have been altered. They are three storeys high with dormers and have a Welsh slate roof. No. 4 has a pebbledash finish to the front, while No. 5 has a plaster front. Both buildings feature a dentil cornice with paterae in the frieze and have parapets. No. 5 also has a hipped, modern dormer and three windows to the second floor. Most of the recessed sash windows have glazing bars. No. 4 has a modern shopfront, while No. 5 has a modern projecting café front. No. 4 was rebuilt after a fire. No. 4 originally had a round-arched doorway with a console-bracketed cornice, a fanlight, and a panelled door, but this has been replaced by a modern shopfront. These buildings are included in the listing for their group value.
