Description
Pond Cottages is a pair of cottages, likely from the 18th century, but they have very few dateable features and were altered in the 20th century. The cottages have rendered rubble walls that may include some cob, and they feature a thatched roof that is gabled at the left end and hipped at the right. There are two rendered stacks at the gable end of the original house.
Originally, each cottage had a two-room plan, with one room heated. The right-hand end includes a former barn that was converted in the 20th century to become part of the living space.
The cottages are two storeys tall and have an asymmetrical three-window elevation facing the road, with five windows on the ground floor, all of which are late 20th-century casements without glazing bars. The converted barn at the right-hand end is lower than the main structure. There are two doorways on the rear elevation, each fitted with 20th-century stable-type doors.
The interior has been completely modernised in the late 20th century, with renewed ceiling beams and rebuilt fireplaces.
