Description

Numbers 6 and 7 Thorne's Cottages are a pair of cottages dating from the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. They are constructed of roughcast cob with a brick wall at the right end and feature a gabled end roof originally thatched but now covered with corrugated iron. The cottages have a double depth plan, with one being a single room in width and the other two rooms wide. They are two storeys tall and have one axial stack and two end stacks with brick shafts.

The front of the cottages has a symmetrical arrangement of three windows. All windows except for the ground floor left-hand window are 16-pane hornless sash windows; the left-hand window has a 12-pane sash. The ground floor windows are positioned directly below those on the first floor, with two front doors located between them. The right-hand end features casement windows, while the left-hand end has only a small attic window.

The rear of the cottages has irregular window placement, which was altered in the 20th century, but there remains one 12-pane hornless sash window on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected, but the current occupant reports that there are no exposed ceiling beams, though there is a well-constructed pegged roof with five trusses.
