Description
This water conduit, located approximately 4.5 metres north of No. 7 on Ridge Hill in Dartmouth, dates back to 1519, as indicated on its recut stone. It was rebuilt in the 19th century, with a previous listing suggesting a date of 1840. The structure is made of local stone rubble with sandstone dressings and has a roughly square shape with battered walls that taper up to an embattled parapet, which was renovated with concrete in the 1980s. The north side is particularly tall due to its construction from the lower level of College Way. The south side features a blocked niche for the tap, while the east side displays a plaque carved with the civic seal and the date 1519, which was also recut in the 1980s.
