Description
7 and 7A Ridge Hill is a small house, now converted into flats, dating from the mid-19th century. It was likely built as holiday cottages and is one of a group of listed buildings situated at the foot of Ridge Hill. The house is constructed of plastered stone rubble, with a stone rubble stack on the left end and a plastered brick chimneyshaft with pots. The roof is slate and gable-ended on the left, stepping up with the hillside.
The exterior has two bays and two storeys. The front is plastered and features a slight blocking effect to resemble ashlar, with flanking end pilasters. The main front door, positioned to the right of centre, has a stucco surround, panelled pilasters, a moulded entablature with a low-pitched pediment, and a recessed two-panel door under an overlight with glazing bars, alongside a modern side light. A service doorway to the right features a modern replacement door. The ground-floor window to the left is contained within a shallow bay with flanking square-headed panels and a moulded cornice. First-floor windows are 12-pane sashes, each with a moulded flat hood on shaped brackets. Plain eaves run along the parallel roof. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
