Description

Old House, used as a farm building, dates from the early 17th century with later alterations and extensions from the 17th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and has a slate roof with hipped and gabled ends. The building is L-shaped and has two storeys. It features one 2-light and one 3-light hollow-chamfered granite mullion window. The roof sweeps down over a projecting central porch, which has a stair projection to the left. There is a later 17th-century gabled bay at the south-west (rear) corner. A large central chimneystack backs onto a cross passage, which has a door at the front only. There is a reset ovolo moulded door-frame at the south end. A late 17th-century wing to the south-east includes a large stack at the gable end and likely has a contemporary lean-to in the angle with the main range. The adjoining shippen has been largely rebuilt in the 18th or 19th century, but some earlier walls remain at the north-west end. Inside, the central chimneystack has a fireplace with granite jambs and a stopped chamfer timber lintel. The hall features stopped and chamfered ceiling beams, and there is a fireplace in the room above the hall with a large granite lintel and corbels. The newel stairs have been replaced with concrete. The barn, which adjoins at right angles to the north-west, is also made of stone rubble and has a slate roof.
