Description

This is a late 16th-century farm house in Shaugh Prior. It is constructed of stone rubble with granite dressings, and has a slate roof, with the front slope covered in corrugated plastic. The house is arranged in an L-shape. It has two storeys and a five-window front. A two-storey gabled porch is located to the right of centre and features a roll-moulded, four-centred arched doorway with a hood mould. Inside the porch is another four-centred arched doorway with a stopped chamfer. The windows are mullioned, with some being two-, three-, or four-light and feature chamfered granite mullions and hood moulds. Chimneystacks are present in the centre of the building and at the rear. A wing extends to the right (south-east), forming the L-shaped plan, and features stone mullion windows and a chamfered four-centred arched doorway. The interior to the rear of the cross passage reveals some exposed ceiling beams and a blocked granite fireplace which was formerly in the hall.
