Description

Farmhouse, dating from the early 17th century, and now a private house. The eaves were raised in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of slate stone rubble with a moulded plinth, and has a regular slate roof with gable ends and crested ridge tiles. End stacks have rebuilt brick shafts. The original plan was likely of two rooms and a cross passage, heated by end stacks, with a larger hall kitchen on the right and a smaller parlour on the left, and a stone turretted stair in a projection to the rear of the passage. A single-room wing to the rear right is probably a later extension, although it features a 17th-century mullion window. A barn was added to the rear in the mid-19th century, and in the late 19th century the eaves of the house were raised and the roof structure replaced. A further extension was added to the rear left in the late 20th century. The front elevation is regular and has three windows. The entrance is to the left of centre, with a 20th-century glazed door in a 19th-century slate porch, flanked by 20th-century 12-pane and 16-pane sashes. The 17th-century ovolo-moulded timber lintels above these windows indicate they replace slightly wider openings. The first floor has three late 19th-century 16-pane sashes in segmental arched brick openings. A 17th-century timber ovolo-moulded mullion window is present in the wing to the rear right. Inside, there are several 17th-century doors on the first floor with moulded cover strips, and remains of a stone newel stair. The roof structure has been replaced and was not inspected.
