Description

The lychgate to the Church of St Peter in Fremington was built around 1870. It is constructed from stone rubble and timber, topped with an asbestos slate roof that has gable ends. The structure is rectangular in shape and features stone rubble plinths on each side. It has timber arcades with four cusped-headed bays that support an unceiled waggon roof, which includes recessed diamond timber latticework and arch-braced trusses at each gable end. At the south end, there are framed gates with 12 open panels. Inside, there is a reset plaque on the inner face of the west wall that is dated 1653, and a stone coffin rest is located in the center of the walkway.
