Description

The building is a mill building dating from the mid-19th century, with later 19th-century extensions. It is constructed of stone rubble with brick dressings, featuring a pantile roof to the left range and a corrugated asbestos roof to the right-hand range. The mill comprises adjoining gable-ended ranges; the left range was added in the late 19th century to the original range which housed the mill machinery. Both ranges are two storeys high. The front gable of the right-hand range has stone steps leading to a plank door, with a two-light window above a long ground floor window to the left, incorporating iron stanchions. The left-hand range has a weatherboarded front gable with double doors, a loft door above with a hoist bar, and two cambered arched windows to the left side, with inserted double doors. At the rear gable end of the left-hand range is a cast iron overshot wheel, with all original machinery intact, including a single pair of stones. The original flour mill has been used in the 20th century as a sawmill and a waste paper factory.
