Description
Hilltop Cottages is a tenement farmhouse that has been converted into two cottages. It is likely from the 17th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is made of rendered stone and cob, topped with a thatched roof featuring gable end brick shafts for the rubble stacks and a tall rear lateral hall stack. Originally designed with a three-room cross-passage plan, it has since been divided into two separate homes. The right-hand cottage is two storeys high, while the left-hand cottage has had its first floor removed and the ground floor raised, making it a single storey. The right-hand side has a three-window range, with 19th or early 20th century two-light casements, each with two panes per light, flanking a single four-paned window. The ground floor features 20th century windows. There is a lean-to roof over a former porch at the left end, which has a blocked doorway, and a 20th century lean-to extension at the left end with a concrete tiled roof on the rear outshut. The interior of the left-hand cottage has been completely altered, while the interior of the right-hand cottage has not been inspected.
