Description
No. 108 Newport Road is a house that has been partly converted into offices. It dates from the early 19th century and is likely a remodelling of an earlier building. The structure features solid roughcast walls and a tiled roof, which is probably made of concrete. There is a red brick chimney on the left side wall and a 20th-century rendered chimney on the right side wall.
The house has two storeys with a garret and a three-window range, with a central doorway. The ground-storey windows are box-framed 6-paned sashes with horns, while the upper-storey windows have older 8-paned sashes, except for the right-hand window, where the lower sash has 12 panes. All windows in both storeys have bracketed cills. The building has a moulded eaves-board and a gutter adorned with lion-heads. At each end of the front, there are giant pilasters of unusual depth. The exposed side wall to the right features two upper-storey windows with 8-paned sashes. The building also has shaped and perforated barge-boards and a dormer at the rear. It is included in the listing for its group value.
