Description
The balustrade and lamp post at Rock Park Lodge, likely dating from 1879, features a timber balustrade and a cast-iron lamp standard set on a stone base, designed in a Free Baroque style. The railings run along New Road, marking the boundary of the garden for Rock Park Lodge. The balustrade includes a moulded brick plinth and heavy turned balusters that reflect a 17th-century character. The lamp standard stands on a square-section pedestal with sunk panels, adorned with four gables and an octagonal base. The standard is stamped with "Geo. Smith and Co., Sun Foundry, Glasgow" and is decorated with heavy S-shaped scrolled brackets, anthemion motifs, and a scrolly ladder rest. It features a tapering cylindrical lamp topped with a conical finial. Rock Park was opened in 1879 and was designed by R.D. Gould.
