Description

No. 2 Union Place is a house that has been converted into a hotel and is connected with No. 1. It was built in the early 19th century, with a later addition on the right side. The building features rendered solid walls, likely made of stone or brick, and has a slated roof with red ridge tiles. It probably has a double-depth plan with a staircase located in the center of the rear section. An unusual feature is the entrance, which is through the left-hand gable wall.

The house is two storeys high and has a three-window range facing the garden. The outer windows on each storey have 8-paned sash windows, except for the lower ground storey, which has sashes with 12 panes. In the center of the ground storey, there is a tall, round-headed niche, with 6-pane sashes above it. The left side wall, which is visible from New Road, includes a round-arched doorway. Above this doorway, in the gable, is a small casement window with a pointed arch; this window is both mullioned and transomed, with each of the two lights featuring its own pointed arch. To the right, there is a plain sash window in each storey.

The right-hand side wall has a gable window with a pointed arch, matching the glazing of the left-hand side wall. The rear wall contains small-paned sashes, including a tall stair window with 12 panes in the center. Both the rear and right-hand side walls can be seen from Holy Trinity churchyard.

The interior has not been inspected. This house, along with No. 1 Union Place, has group value with Nos. 1-6 Union Terrace to the southwest and Holy Trinity Church to the northeast.
