GV II

House, now hotel incorporated with No.1 (qv). Early C19, with later addition on right-hand side. Rendered, solid walls, probably of stone or brick. Slated roof with red-ridge tiles. Probably a double-depth plan with stair in centre of rear section; unusual in having entrance through left-hand gable wall. 2 storeys. 3-window range to garden. Outer windows in each storey have 8-paned sashes, except for the lower ground-storey sashes which have 12 panes. In centre of ground storey is a tall, round-headed niche; 6-pane sashes above. Side wall to left (visible from New Road) has round-arched doorway. Above it, in gable, a small casement window with pointed arch; window is mullioned and transomed, each of the 2 lights with its own pointed arch. To right in each storey a plain sash window. Right-hand side wall has gable window with pointed arch and glazing matching that in the left-hand side wall. Rear wall has small-paned sashes including the tall stair 12-pane window in centre. Both rear and right-hand side walls are visible from Holy Trinity churchyard. INTERIOR not inspected. This house, together with No 1 Union Place (qv), has group value both with Nos 1-6 Union Terrace (qv), Taw Vale, to the south-west, and Holy Trinity Church (qv) to the north-east.
