Description

Thatched Warren is a house located in Chulmleigh, likely dating from the 17th century, although it may contain earlier fabric that is not visible. The building was remodeled in the 19th century and extended on the right end in the 20th century. It features painted roughcast rendered stone rubble and cob, with a hipped thatch roof. There is an axial rendered stack and rendered stacks at each end. The interior was not accessible for assessment, but the layout may consist of a three-room and lobby entry plan, with an additional room added on the right end. In the 19th century, the house appears to have been divided into two separate occupations.

The exterior is two storeys high with a four-window range. It has gabled half dormers featuring two-light casements with six panes per light. Most of the 19th-century windows are intact, except for those in the added bay. The ground floor casements have eight panes per light, and there is a small window towards the left end, along with two rear casements that have rectangular leaded panes. The house also includes two rustic timber porches with half-hipped thatch roofs and an outshut at the rear left end with a slate roof. The interior has not been inspected.
