Description

Colleton Mill Farmhouse is a small farmhouse, likely dating from the late 17th century, with an extension added in the 18th century. The farmhouse is constructed of painted rendered stone rubble and cob, with a thatched roof that is half-hipped at the left end and gabled to the right. A rendered stone rubble stack is located at the right end, and a brick stack with a tapered cap and a bread oven projection is situated to the rear left end.

The original plan was probably a two-room and central passage layout, to which an additional single-room extension was added in the 18th century. A large single-storey outshut extends to the rear of the right-hand room. The exterior is two storeys high and has a three-window range. The 19th-century windows are largely intact. The original section has a near-symmetrical arrangement with two three-light casements on each floor, each with 6 or 8 panes per light, positioned on either side of a rustic 20th-century timber porch and a late 19th-century nine-panelled door. A small thatched leanto is present at the right end. The 18th-century extension to the left end features a large three-light metal casement window with horizontal tilting upper lights (18 panes per light) above a three-light casement with 8 panes per light, positioned to the right of the rustic timber porch and plank door. Another leanto is present at the left end.

The interior has been largely altered in the 20th century, although some 19th-century joinery remains. The roof has not been inspected.
