Description
The Curatage is a house located on the south side of High Street in Chittlehampton. It is probably from the late 18th century, although there may be earlier fabric hidden within. The exterior is made of painted stone rubble and cob, topped with a thatch roof that has a plain ridge and gable ends. There are two brick stacks at the rear of the building.
The house is two storeys high and has a three-window range. The 19th-century windows are entirely intact, featuring two three-light casements on each floor. The upper storey windows have eight panes per light, while the ground floor windows have ten panes per light and include timber shutters, flanking a two-light casement with eight panes per light above a 19th-century six-panelled door. The rear wings also retain much of their late 18th to early 19th-century fenestration, with a large blocked opening on the outer face of the right-hand rear wing. The interior was not accessible during the survey.
