Description

Ye Olde Shoppe is a former cottage that has been converted into a shop. It likely dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble and cob, topped with a thatch roof that is hipped at the front and has a gable end at the rear. There is an unrendered lateral stone stack with a tapered cap on the front left side.

The original layout of the cottage has been completely obscured by the 20th-century conversion into a shop, which involved removing all internal partitions and the staircase, as well as demolishing the rear gable end stack. The building is oriented at right angles to the road and likely originally had two rooms: a front room heated by the lateral stack on the left side, and a rear room heated by a former rear gable end stack, which is no longer present.

The structure has two storeys and features a 2-light casement window with six panes per light above a large 20th-century shop front. There is also a 19th-century 2-light casement window with six panes per light and a horizontal eight-paned window above it on the right side. A 20th-century extension has been added to the rear. The interior has been entirely altered in the 20th century, and the upper floor and roof space are not accessible.
