Description
The Thatched Shop is a cottage that has been converted into a shop, dating from the late 16th century and late 18th century, with 19th-century alterations and additions. It is constructed of stone rubble and brick, featuring internal timber framing and a thatched roof. The building is single storey with an attic and consists of two structural bays divided by crucks that have been infilled to create a partition. There is a 19th-century single-storey addition with a slate lean-to roof against the north gable wall. The south gable end has a stack, and the entrance doorway features brick jambs and a 19th-century four-panel door. Windows on either side of the entrance are now blocked but were likely horizontal sliding sashes. The rear wall is made of brick and includes a doorway and a horizontal barred sliding sash window to the right. Inside, the crucks have upper and lower ties, and there are stop-chamfered bridging beams and exposed joists, stone flagged floors, an inglenook fireplace, and 19th-century shop fittings.
