Description
Laston House is an early 19th-century house located on New Barnstaple Road in Ilfracombe. The building is rendered, with the left side finished in slate. It features a hipped roof made of Welsh slate. The layout consists of a central entrance and stair hall that is double depth, with the main rooms on the right side offering views of the garden and the sea.
The entrance front is symmetrical, with a three-window arrangement. It has hornless sash windows, with 16 panes on the first floor and 20 panes on the ground floor. A central Greek mutular Doric porch, adorned with triglyphs, enhances the entrance. The building also has a moulded cornice.
On the right side, the facade is divided into a 1:3:1 bay arrangement, with the central three bays bowed. The first floor features hornless sash windows with 12 and 16 panes, while the outer bays on the ground floor have 20-pane sashes. The bowed bays include 12-pane windows above French windows with margin panes.
Inside, there is an open staircase and panelled doors, along with a black and white slab floor in the entrance hall. This property was previously listed under Hillsborough Road.
