Description
Manor House is an imposing detached house with wings, built around the 1750s to 1770s, and has undergone later alterations. It features a red brick exterior and a slated roof with red ridge tiles, built into the hillside with a single-room depth. The house has three storeys and two-storey flanking wings, with a total of seven windows plus single window wings. The central section has a three-window canted bay, with red brick pilasters at the corners and terracotta floor bands. The entrance is located to the left of the canted bay and features a 20th-century panelled door. The windows are flush framed sashes with exposed boxing, and the wings have 20th-century sashes. The building is topped with a brick dentil cornice and a parapet.
Inside, the house has been divided into separate accommodations and altered. It was the town house of the Wreys of Tawstock, who were Lords of the Manor. Sir Bourchier Falk Wrey, who died here in 1879, appears to be the last family member to occupy the house. Manor House is a prominent and important feature of the harbour.
