SWIMBRIDGE SS 62 NW 11/225 Tower Farm House

II

Farmhouse. C17, possibly earlier fabric concealed. Rendered stone and cob with bitumenised slate roof, half-hipped at left end, gable end to right. Small stack across angle at right end front, lateral brick stack to rear heating lower end, enclosed in slated outshut. Axial brick stack, formerly backing onto cross-passage but passage partition removed, and a window inserted in the former cross-passage doorway. Small lobby entry at lower end, with 3 rooms in line and stair turret extended as an outshut to rear of hall. 2 storeys. 4 window range, 3 sashes with margin glazing bars on each floor and 2-light casement, 6 panes per light above 2- light casement, 2 panes per light at right end. Interior: C19 joinery at lower end. Roughly chamfered beam at upper end. Twin flight of stairs to stair turret. Single C17 roof truss survives, straight principals with lap-jointed collar and trenches for 3 tiers of purlins now removed. The truss is closed with a lath, cob and plaster partition. Remaining roof trusses replaced.
