Description
No. 31 High Street is a shop that underwent remodelling in the 1890s, originally part of an earlier building. The exterior is stuccoed and features a blocked-out design, with the roof material concealed behind a parapet, making it so that no stacks are visible from the High Street. The building has a deep plan, consisting of one room wide and positioned end on to the street. It stands four storeys tall and has a two-window front, although the original sash windows have been replaced with late 20th-century fenestration. The first-floor windows are adorned with bracketed cornices and decorative friezes, while a dentilled cornice runs along the parapet. The shop front, also from the 20th century, has shop windows that are canted in towards a central door. The ground floor has been gutted for shop use, and the rest of the interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value.
