Description
No. 36 Dalton Road is a shop building from the late 19th century that has been altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of stucco with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. The building has two storeys and is gable-fronted, with a layout of three bays across the front and four bays deep. It has a plinth and rusticated quoin-strips, with pilasters flanking a recessed central door that is topped by a basket arch. The shop windows on either side of the door have projecting sills and are framed by basket-arched architraves, with a continuous cornice above. On the first floor, a sill band connects 20th-century casement windows that are also set within basket-arched architraves, and there is a 20th-century bargeboard. The left side of the building features a 20th-century shop window below a single window matching the front. The right side has a blocked basket-arched window in the second bay and a blocked doorway in the third bay, while the remaining windows are architraved like those on the first floor at the front. This building is included for its group value with other nearby structures.
