Description
41 Fore Street is an early 19th century shop that is part of a long row of buildings. The structure is made of brick that has been white-washed and is topped with a slate roof.
The shop has two storeys and features a gabled front with a three-window arrangement. The first-floor windows are two-light with two-centred arches and Y-tracery, which includes interlaced leadwork. Above these windows, there is a blind oculus in the gable. On the ground floor, there is vehicular access to a tenement on the right side, which is provided by double-leaf timber doors with strap hinges. In the central and left bays, there is a double-fronted 20th-century shop window, with a central door to the left that is recessed from the street. This area has a terrazzo pavement that displays the name "Frisby’s," the chain of shoe shops that occupied the premises in the 20th century. The overlights above both the door and windows feature bands of glass at the top and bottom, with rectangles quartered diagonally in the middle.
