Description
111 and 112 High Street is a pair of shops with accommodation above, likely originating from the late 18th century and remodeled in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick and has a slate roof with end stacks featuring brick bands. It has a double-depth plan with a central passageway.
The exterior consists of three storeys and a symmetrical three-bay front with regular window arrangement. All windows above the ground floor have flat gauged brick arches. The deep eaves are supported by paired moulded eaves brackets and feature a dentil frieze. The second-floor windows and the centre window on the first floor are glazed with late 19th-century two-pane sashes that include margin panes. The first-floor windows on the left and right have been replaced with late 19th-century canted bays that have cornices supported by moulded brackets. Below high transoms, the windows are fitted with two-pane timber casements.
The shop fronts feature late 19th-century plain pilasters and an entablature with a dentil frieze beneath the cornice. The left shop front is a 20th-century replacement with a new door, while the right shop front includes a two-pane shop window with a rounded corner pane to the left and a shop door on the inner return that is glazed with a low panel and overlight. The interior has not been inspected but may still have interesting features.
