Description

A pair of shops with living accommodation above, likely dating from the mid-19th century, located on the north side of High Street in Crediton. The buildings are constructed of Flemish bond brick, with a slate roof and end stacks featuring brick banding. The plan incorporates a double depth layout and a central passageway.

The exterior presents an asymmetrical 5-bay facade with regular window placement. All windows above the ground floor have stuccoed voussoirs with keyblocks. Deep eaves feature a boarded soffit and moulded brackets. The windows are likely late 19th-century 2-pane sashes with margin panes. Number 117, on the right-hand side, has a late 19th and early 20th century shop front characterized by pilasters with an incised fret design. The original entablature is partially concealed behind a later angled fascia that extends across the passageway. The shop front is symmetrical to the left, with a smaller window to the right. The windows are plate glass with moulded mullions. A later 20th-century recessed, two-leaf glazed shop door with an overlight is also present. The shop to the left has a late 20th-century shop front.

The interior was not inspected, but may contain features of interest. The buildings are included on the list for their contribution to the group value of the street.
