Description
Nos. 115 and 116 on High Street in Crediton are a pair of shops with living accommodation above, dating from the early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of Flemish bond brick and topped with a slate roof, featuring a left end stack with a shaft that has brick bands.
The exterior is three storeys high and presents a slightly asymmetrical three-bay front with a regular arrangement of windows. All windows above the ground floor have flat gauged brick arches. The deep eaves include an eaves fascia and moulded eaves brackets. There is a cartway with a brick arch that has rounded corners, leading to late 19th or early 20th century boarded doors with a very small wicket.
The shop on the left has a 20th-century plate glass shop window and a door to the right. The shop front on the right is from the late 19th or early 20th century, featuring pilasters with incised fret decoration and an entablature with a moulded cornice. The shop window angles in towards the door on the right, which is glazed with a low panel and an overlight.
On the first floor, the windows are 20th-century two-light timber casements with glazing bars, likely replacing original sashes. The second floor has a similar window on the right, while the two left-hand second floor windows are early 19th-century sashes, with a 16-pane window to the right and a 12-pane window in the centre. The interior has not been inspected but may contain features of interest.
