Description
27 High Street is a shop with accommodation above, dating from around the mid-18th century, likely built after the 1743 fire in Crediton. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick and has a corrugated asbestos roof that replaced the original slate. It features a brick chimney stack.
The structure has a double depth plan and is three storeys tall with a two-window front. The roof has deep eaves supported by paired, moulded eaves brackets. On the first floor, there is an 18th-century tripartite sash window with a moulded flush frame and a concrete lintel, featuring a 12-pane centre light and 4-pane outer lights. The second floor has two 18th-century 3/6-pane flush-frame sash windows.
On the ground floor, there is a plate glass shop window to the left and a canted bay shop window to the right, which includes a fascia with a moulded cornice that extends across the glazed, recessed shop door, accompanied by a low panel to the left. The ground floor has been gutted for 20th-century shop use, but features of interest may still exist in other areas of the building.
