Description
No. 26, High Street is a late 18th-century shop with living accommodation above, standing on the south side of the street. The front is of painted Flemish bond brick, with a slate roof. A brick stack features old pots. The building has a double-depth plan, with a cartway to the left side. It is three storeys high and has an asymmetrical two-window front. The roof has deep eaves, a moulded cornice, and paired moulded eaves brackets. The first floor has two early 19th-century twelve-pane sash windows. The second floor has three early 19th-century six-over-six pane sash windows, the left-hand window positioned above the cartway. The ground floor features a shop front likely dating to the early 20th century, with a moulded cornice above the fascia. To the left is a canted plate glass shallow bay window and, to the right, a recessed glazed shop door. The rear room contains some cob walling along with exposed beams; it may have originally been a workshop. The first floor was not inspected, but may contain interesting original features. The rear walling may also be of cob.
