Description

This is a pair of shops with living accommodation above, likely built in the mid-18th century and altered in the 20th century. The front is built of Flemish bond brick, with occasional blue headers, and has a gabled slate roof with deep eaves and a boarded soffit. Brick stacks are at either end. The building was designed with a double-depth plan and incorporates a central cartway.

The symmetrical front has three bays and three storeys. The second-floor windows are 18th-century sash windows with four-eight panes, flush frames, and some original glass. The first-floor windows share similar flush frames and segmental arched heads; the left-hand window retains its original 16-pane sash, while the others have hornless four-pane sashes. The cartway has late 19th or 20th-century boarded doors. The shop on the right (number 141A) has a late 20th-century plate glass shop window and a glazed door. The shop on the left (number 140) has a fixed six-pane shop window and a half-glazed 19th-century door. The interior was not inspected but may contain features of interest.
