Description

This is an early to mid-18th century house, originally with a shop on the ground floor. The left-hand side of the building was repaired and the parapet rebuilt in 1989. The front is built of Flemish bond brick with a slate roof, featuring sprocketted eaves and brick stack shafts. The house has a symmetrical three-bay facade and three storeys. A moulded cornice with small brackets sits above a parapet. The central doorway has a shallow porch with fluted Greek Doric columns and an entablature, as well as a reeded doorcase and a three-pane overlight. The internal door behind is fitted with an overlight featuring intersecting glazing bars. All windows, except for the shop window on the left, are topped by painted flat gauged brick arches with keyblocks. The ground floor window on the right is a tripartite sash with twelve panes in the centre and four panes in the outer lights. The two outer first-floor windows are similar, while the central first-floor window is a twelve-pane sash, lacking glazing bars in the bottom light. The outer second-floor windows have a 3/6-pane window in the centre and a 1/2-pane window in the outer lights. A late 19th century shop window is present on the left, featuring a dentil cornice below the fascia and projecting shop windows canted inwards towards the central, two-leaf door, which is half-glazed with a plain overlight. The shop windows are high and transomed with moulded frames. The shop retains a moulded cornice. The remainder of the house has not been inspected, but may contain original features.
