Description
No. 22 on Fore Street is a house with a shop below, forming part of a long row of buildings. It dates from the mid-19th century but may have an earlier core. The structure is made of a mix of cob and stone, plastered, and has a gabled-end slate roof that abuts adjacent properties. There is a right-hand axial stack with a brick shaft. The building has two storeys with attic dormers.
The front features a two-window range, with substantial gabled dormers that have crested ridge tiles, a fascia, and fluted architraves, each dormer containing horned sashes, now with one pane per sash. The first-floor windows are horned sashes with margin panes and moulded surrounds, with the right-hand window positioned above access to the rear and New Cut.
The early 20th-century shop front has four panes in each shop window and is canted at the central entrance, which has double doors that are glazed above and panelled below. A moulded cornice runs above the shop front, with pilaster quoins. The building is included for its group value.
