Description
This building is a double barn located approximately 20 meters east of Dira Farmhouse, likely dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It features plastered cob on exposed rubble footings and has a thatched roof. The barn consists of two sections set end to end, each with central opposing full-height double doors. The west side, facing the farmyard, includes a 19th-century rubble-built lean-to at the left end, a 20th-century boarded lean-to between the two doors, and a small door at the right end. The right barn has slightly projecting midstrey walls, while the left barn's midstrey walls are only partly intact. The left barn door is adorned with strap hinges that have fleur de lys finials. The eaves are lowered over the midstreys and the central portion of the wall between the barns. The roof is half-hipped on the left side and gabled on the right. At the rear (east), both doors feature slight projecting midstrey walls. Each barn has a 5-bay roof supported by A-frames with pegged lap-jointed collars, and they were originally separated by a cob crosswall that has since been removed.
