Description
No 1 Church Path and No 5 Pond Hill are two dwellings located in Halberton, dating from the 17th century with later alterations. The buildings are constructed of cob with a stone plinth and roughcast finish, topped with gabled ends and hipped pantiled roofs. The original layout is difficult to determine due to significant remodeling, but a through-passage remains in the east wing. The structure is L-shaped, featuring end stacks with brick shafts for each section.
The front of the building, which faces the church, likely includes a former parlour wing and has a two-window range, with all windows consisting of three lights; one window features a cyma recta moulded lintel. The north elevation has four distinct projections: the gable end of the previously mentioned range with one two-light window on the ground floor; a small projection that may be a stair turret, with two two-light windows, one on each floor; a deeper projection containing the entrance to the through-passage and two two-light windows with metal frames; and a fourth section under a hip with no windows. The south elevation includes two, four, and eight-light windows, all fitted with 19th or 20th-century frames and casements. There has been no interior inspection of the properties.
