Description
Church Gate Cottage is a Grade II listed cottage located on Pond Hill in Halberton. It is likely from the 17th century, with a later extension added. The cottage is constructed from plastered cob with a stone plinth and features a hipped and half-hipped thatched roof. Originally, it was a single room plan cottage at one end of an adjacent barn, and it includes a 19th-century one-room extension, with the joint between the two structures clearly visible. The cottage stands two storeys high and has a front with a two-window range. The windows are casement style, dating from the 19th or 20th century, and are barred. There is a glazed gabled-end porch with a slate roof, and an axial stack with a brick shaft, which was formerly the gable end stack of the original cottage.
