Description

3 Exeter Road is a former Post Office with accommodation above, located on the east side of Exeter Road in Crediton. It dates from the late 18th century and features a mid-19th century shop front. The building is stuccoed with a slate roof and has brick chimney stacks.

The exterior consists of two storeys with an asymmetrical front that has a two-bay section for the Post Office and a four-bay section overall. The roof is hipped at the left end, and there is a left end and axial stack. The left two bays serve as the Post Office, while the third bay has a 20th-century timber front door to the house, and the extreme right has a 19th-century six-panel door. The first floor has four late 18th or early 19th-century windows with segmental arched heads and sixteen-pane sashes. The two ground floor windows to the right, situated between the doors, are late 19th-century four-pane horned sashes. There is also a sixteen-pane sash window on the first floor of the left return.

The shop front of the Post Office is attractive, featuring pilasters with sunk panels and a moulded cornice above the fascia. It has four-light shop windows flanking a central front door, which is a two-leaf glazed door with two panes per leaf, a low panel below, and a two-pane overlight with rounded corners. The three-pane shop window lights are divided by columns with moulded capitals and moulded spandrels.

The interior has not been inspected.
