Description

Culver House, along with its attached front yard wall and stable, is a house likely built in the 1830s. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick, with the left side plastered, and features a slate roof and stacks with rendered shafts. The building has a plan that includes two rooms wide with a central entrance and rear service rooms in a narrower parallel block. To the south, there is a stable yard enclosed by a brick wall that faces the road, with a stable block located in the south-west corner.

The exterior of Culver House is three stories high and has a symmetrical three-bay front with a gable-ended roof and end stacks. There are steps leading up to the original central six-panel front door, which has panelled reveals and an overlight. Above the door, there is a sunk panel with a shallow drip ledge. The original windows are present throughout the building: the ground floor features eight-over-twelve pane sash windows, while the first floor has sixteen-pane windows on the left and right and a twelve-pane window in the centre. The second floor windows are similar to those on the first floor. The right side of the building has a later 19th-century canted bay window on the ground floor at the rear. To the right, the brick wall of the stable yard slopes down to a carriage entrance that has a pair of timber gates. The stable itself is a small gabled brick block with a slate roof, positioned parallel to the road. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
