Description

Nos. 9, 10, and 10A East Street is a terrace of three houses dating from around the 1830s, possibly representing a remodelling of an earlier building, with one house altered in the late 20th century. The construction consists of roughcast cob, stone, and brick, topped with a slate roof and featuring stacks with brick shafts.

The layout includes Nos. 9 and 10, which are single-fronted with front doors located to the right, likely facing the staircase. No. 10A is a two-storey flat situated above a former stable on the ground floor, which has a cartway entrance from the street.

The exterior is three storeys high with a window arrangement of 1:1:1. No. 9, on the left, features an attractive doorcase with pilasters that have thin plain consoles and an entablature. The door reveals are adorned with fielded panels and an overlight that has geometric glazing bars, although the original door has been replaced with a 20th-century version that includes small panes. No. 10 has 20th-century two-pane casements set in earlier embrasures, one for each storey, along with a 20th-century front door featuring glazing bars. No. 10A boasts a pair of impressive six-panelled doors leading to the cartway, which is topped by a deep overlight with glazing bars.

The interior of No. 10A was partially inspected, revealing a brick-paved entrance to the former stable block, which has a thick stone right end wall containing blocked windows. Other interesting features may exist within the other houses.
