Description
Vine Cottage is a house that probably dates back to the early 18th century. It is constructed of plastered stone rubble and has a slate roof with end stacks featuring modern brick shafts. The building has a single-depth plan that is two rooms wide, with an additional room built over the cartway on the right side and a rear left service wing that is at right angles to the main structure.
The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with four windows. It features deep, boxed eaves. The front door is located to the left of the centre and is flanked by pilasters, with panelled reveals and a moulded hood above. The door itself is a four-panel design with a plain overlight. At the right end of the building, there are paired boarded doors from the 20th century leading to the cartway. The first floor has four late 18th or early 19th century 16-pane sash windows, while the two ground floor windows flanking the front door are 20th century timber replacements with two-pane high transomed casements.
Inside, the left-hand room features a chamfered crossbeam with notches indicating a former partition. There is also a wainy axial beam in the ground floor right room. Additionally, late medieval pottery has been discovered in the rear garden, according to information from the owners.
