Description
Branxton House is a house with a former Post Office attached on the right, dating from the early 19th century, with the Post Office dated 1854 above the back door. The building is rendered with ashlar dressings and has a Welsh slate roof.
The house is two storeys high and has three bays, featuring thin angle pilaster strips. The central entrance consists of a panelled door with an overlight, all set in a thin stone surround. The windows are 12-pane sashes, also in similar stone surrounds. The gabled roof has flat coping and brick stacks at the ends.
The Post Office section is lower, with two storeys and three bays. It has 12-pane sashes on the ground floor and shorter 9-pane sashes above, all within raised alternating-block surrounds. The rear of the house is symmetrical, featuring a central boarded door and 12-pane sashes, including a large stair window above the door.
The rear of the Post Office has one tall storey on the left with three bays, a central two-leaf door with a dated lintel, and flanking 20-pane shop windows. To the right, there is a two-storey section with two 12-pane sashes. The interior includes 6-panel doors and shutters, along with a staircase featuring cast iron balusters.
