Description

This building, located at 11-13 High Street in Crediton, is an early 19th-century shop with accommodation above, featuring a late 19th-century shop front. The exterior is stuccoed and blocked out, with the right return being roughcast and the rear clad in corrugated iron. It has a slate roof with a left end stack and stands three storeys tall.

The front is asymmetrical with three bays that are unevenly spaced. The roof has deep boxed eaves supported by small paired brackets. There are left and right pilasters with round-headed sunk panels and moulded consoles that support an angled fascia. To the right, there is a glazed door with a low pane and overlight, framed by narrower pilasters and consoles. The shop doorway to the left is similarly designed, but the door has two panels below the middle rail and features an iron grille above with arabesque patterns, matching the grille over the overlight.

The plate glass shop window is divided by a mullion that corresponds with the pilasters, featuring one large pane on the right and a smaller pane on the left, along with a smaller window to the left of the shop door. On the first floor, there are three windows with plain proud architraves, originally fitted with 12-pane sashes but now with 2-pane sashes. The second floor also has three windows with similar architraves, originally 3/6-pane, now also with 2-pane sashes. The ground floor has been gutted for shop use, but interesting features may still exist upstairs.
