Description

A pair of attached houses, 12 and 13 Lyndhurst Road, built around the middle of the 19th century. Number 13 is now used as a school. The houses are constructed of stuccoed walls with a slate hipped roof, featuring deep eaves supported by brackets. The stacks are rendered.

The plan comprises a pair of houses with projecting end bays and side entrances. The design is in the Italianate style.

The symmetrical south-east front has a 1:3:1 bay arrangement. The projecting end bays feature rusticated quoins. There is a decorative band at first-floor sill level. The sash windows have glazing bars and are set within moulded architraves. The ground floor outer windows have canopies supported by console brackets. Number 13 has lost its quoins and window detailing. Side porches are present; Number 12 has a semi-circular arched entrance with a keyblock, imposts, a cornice, and a parapet balustrade, while the detail of the porch on Number 13 is missing.

The interiors have not been inspected.

The houses are part of a group of similar villas along Lyndhurst Road and are examples of stuccoed Italianate architecture.
